Sexual misperception within males oriented towards short term mating strategies suggest men in comparison with women are more likely to over-perceive sexual interest. This paper examines whether Perilloux, Easton, and Buss (2012) adequately support their claims as well as alternative factors that could have been included to substantiate their findings. There are significant amounts of additional research which support Perilloux et al. in their conclusion however, factors such as the average age of participants, past education and more liberal sexual views as well as participants potential censorship or downplay of their responses within experiments to maintain socially desirable responses may also provide important information. Other research suggests that beyond gender alone, there could be alternative explanations as to why some men in particular tend to misperceive women’s sexual interest. Additional expansion on factors such as these could further corroborate Perilloux et al.’s theory of misperception of sexual interest and explain further men’s mating strategies.
