Annotated Bibliography
Annotation – an evaluative and descriptive paragraph about a citation is a crucial component of nursing as to demonstrate the accuracy, relevance and quality of sources cited in a research paper to the reader. In the previously conducted research journal, certain high-quality and peer-reviewed sources were presented in relation to the case of Jenny Coste. Jenny Coste, a 9-years old girl, after the observation of severe symptoms by her parents and the healthcare professionals was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Though the focus of the research will be towards the provision of palliative care to Jenny at her home, other factors will also be considered in this study to provide holistic care to the patient. The patient, despite the provision of aggressive treatment initially, relapsed and this aspect will be analysed in the research so that effective interventions targeted towards the health needs of Jenny can be implemented. Also worth noting is the fact that Jenny’s parents are also in a traumatic state and the research will also focus on how the nurses and the healthcare professionals can account for the emotional needs of them. These reasons provided answers to the question as to why these articles are included for annotation and for the care of Jenny Coste. Though the primary benefit of annotating the bibliographical sources is to provide reasons to the reader regarding the accuracy and reliability of the sources, it also assists the researcher in evaluating whether the collected sources, on a given problem/issue, are relevant and valid enough to effectively solve the issue. Nurses experience different patients every day with varying needs and it is necessary that implementations for each of them are targeted to their health needs. Annotating the sources assists the nurses in determining the reliability and relevancy of the collected sources to the patient’s specific needs for the interventions to be effective.
