Comparing Cultural Relativism and Object Moral Realist

PHIL1011 - Reality, Ethics and Beauty

1 Found helpful 8 Pages Essays / Projects Year: Pre-2021

intro: Cultural Relativism and Objective Moral Realists both consider morality through different points of view, and through a comparative critique one can identify the strengths and weaknesses of each with regard to their understandings of morality. This essay will provide multiple sound examples to explore the two theories in detail while providing an explanation as to which is most preferred over the other. Both theories provide a worthy line of inquiry into the meaning and nature of morality. Through the assembled literature this paper aims to highlight the significant strength of objective moral realism in comparison to cultural relativism based on the failure of the latter to address the narrow scope that cultural relativism provides in regards to social improvement and criticism. Furthermore, the inability to reconcile cultural relativism with universally accepted moral standards, namely human rights, represents a significant point of divergence. - got 67/100
