Research in Motion (RIM) was once considered as the leader in the Smartphone industry before the emergence of Apple and Android phone. In the past few years, RIM has lost a considerable share of the market because of the more user-friendly products offered by Apple and Android. RIM has also experienced a steady decline in profits and share price. In order to regain market share and improve its profitability, RIM should focus on its three core competencies. These include; focus on the corporate market, its e-mail and messaging service, and its powerful operating system. Focusing on theses factors will ensure that RIM will retain its customer base and attract new customers.
