This task is in two parts, A & B. Whilst individual marks will be given for part B, the presentations are to be prepared and delivered in small groups, with each student discussing their own aspect of the group topic area. During the week 3 tutorial, you will be placed in a group for the presentation and assigned to one of the following topics: Describe how you would explain a health-related concept to an individual who: • is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person • is an older person (aged 65 and over) • is from a culturally diverse community • lives with a condition affecting their physical ability (ie. hearing loss, visual loss, loss of mobility) • lives with a condition affecting their cognitive ability (ie. dementia, mental health disorder, developmental disability) Part A: Content – Written Summary (40 marks, group) The presentation is to be structured with an introduction (or objectives), body (content) and conclusion (summary).Your group is to define all key terms and include the communication skills used to develop a therapeutic relationship with the person. Communication techniques to enhance the person’s learning opportunities are also to be discussed. On the day of the presentation, you are required to submit a one (1) page summary of your group’s presentation (point form is acceptable – one summary per group). All students in the presentation group will receive the same mark for part A. Part B: Presentation Skills and Referencing (60 marks, individual) Each student is required to present for five (5) minutes on an aspect of the group topic area. Marks will be awarded for oral and non-verbal presentation skills. Your delivery style and the cohesiveness of your information to that of your fellow group members will also be assessed. You will receive marks for appropriately supporting your information with scholarly references. You are to submit your own formatted reference list documenting the references you referred to individually. No visual aids are to be used (i.e. PowerPoint), as this assessment is about developing student presentation skills. However, palm cards or notes can be used. Please remember to verbally reference (and put the full reference into your reference list) any material discussed that is not your own views.
