Earliest Evidence for Life
Received an HD for this essay, 19/20 marks
The earliest evidence for life remains one of the most significantly debated topics throughout the scientific community. Numerous pieces of evidence have contributed to this topic; answering questions by expanding the scope of our understanding in relation to the earliest forms of life. Some evidence for the earliest of life on Earth includes stromatolite, microfossils and hydrothermal vents located on the sea floor. These three direct forms of evidence are heavily scrutinized and therefore, naturally contain some controversies surrounding them. Evidence found in these three forms highlight life may have occurred later than predicted by scientists, suggesting it occurred after the period of Late Heavy Bombardment [Dodd et al., 2017]. However, new studies using advanced computer technology, models that microbes (extremophiles) could well have survived during the bombardment in habitats under the surface of the Earth where it would have been insulated from the destruction [Live Science, 2009]. Ultimately, this debate of the earliest evidence of life is an interesting and intriguing notion regarding the indication of the potential life on other planets such as Mars.
