It is generally known that mining is an important primary industry in Australian and it is also a great contributor to the Australian economy. In fact, there are more than 6 per cent of Australian’s economy was contributed by the minerals resources industry accounts and more than $125 billion had been invested in the last 10 year(Australian Mining, 2012). Australian began to produce minerals in large quantities form the early days of European settlement at Sydney Cove. Moreover, gold was first found in New South Wales in 1823. It was found on a survey mission in hills near the Fish River wast of Bathurst by James McBrien who was a public official. In addition, mining booms in Australian had also encouraged immigration to Australia because the development of mining had provided a huge number of employments to thousands of people. It is obvious that the mining has a great impact on the development of Australian social society. There are many mineral areas in Australian. In this report, it is going to take the city of Newcastle as an example to talk about the mining history in Australia. The Newcastle is surrounded by Cessnock, Maitland, Wyong and Teralba is in the central area. Between 2008 and 2009, there were about 15.1 Mt of saleable coal produced in Newcastle. In fact, the coal was first found in NSW was in 1791 near Newcastle by European. The report also includes the influences of mining on Australian history and social society.
