Article Review 2 - Stereotype Threat at Work
MGMT2718 - Human Resource Management
4 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2020
In the article by Roberson and Kulik, ‘Stereotype threat’ is referred to concern of being in a situation where negative stereotypes of ones particular identity group could be confirmed or believed. In the diversity management literature, they traditionally pay more attention on selecting and training non-prejudice managers and changing their behaviours and attitudes towards these certain groups in order to eliminate discrimination in an organization. The difference is that they are trying to reduce discriminative attitudes from predominantly one person although they should be trying to reduce the influence of stereotypes on the individual who is affected by the stereotype as they are the one that experience ‘stereotype threat’. Moreover, if the managers are not aware or acknowledge stereotype threats, the management of diversity in organizations wont effectively improve.
