The Everest Simulation

The Everest Simulation is an online group task consisting of completing two simulated climbs of Mount Everest, with participants grouped in teams of at least five. Performance is assessed through both individual and team goals, which can be achieved through the utilisation of effective communication and leadership throughout the simulation. For the first simulation, “Paramount” achieved 74% of team goals, while I as the photographer achieved 62% of my individual goals. In the second simulation, group performance was reduced by 4% to 70%, while my individual performance improved by 13% to 75% Ultimately, the objective of this report is to critically analyse the use of simulations as a development tool for managers. This extends to simulation’s ability to enrich learning by complementing management theory and demonstrating its contribution to inefficiencies and successful outcomes in management and the modern workplace.
