Introduction. In 2010, the Commonwealth Parliament enacted the Elections Administration Act 2010 (Cth) to enhance the integrity of Australia’s electoral process. This paper will examine whether Mark has breached s 7 by evaluating his actions through literal and purposive interpretation. Under literal interpretation, Mark appeared to have breached the law. However, when purposive interpretation was implemented due to the ambiguous nature of the legislation, Mark appeared to be innocent. Ultimately, the construction of the legislation which best promotes the object of the Elections Administration Act 2010 (Cth) will be the chosen interpretation.1
