This assessment piece is designed to give you practice at critically examining an academic article in depth, including identifying what the author/s argue on their own terms, and reflecting upon its conceptual material. Method: Analyse Matthews (2013) listed in the Course Outline. A copy of the article will be placed on the course’s Moodle website. Full reference: Matthews, J. (2013). Examine this reading in your own words to produce a summarised response to the article as follows: Main point: What is the main point or argument of this article? Support: Identify and explain the reasons, evidence, or premises that the author gives in support of this main point or argument. Objections: Identify and explain any objections to the main point or argument that might be discussed by the author. Evaluation: Evaluate the main point or argument. Do you agree with the author’s position? Why or why not? Reflection: Reflect on and outline how the article is relevant to your studies both in this course and overall. How might you use it to inform your studies and developing practice?
