Education: A Solution. Self-Stigma attached to mental illnesses negatively impacts young people’s self-esteem and self-efficacy. This report examines how self-stigma attached to mental illnesses affects a young person’s self-esteem, the current situation regarding mental health in Australia, and how the NFP company, A Better Day, suggests taking on this issue. The literary evidence that currently exists shows clearly that not only do stigmas associated with mental illness seriously impact on a person’s life, but also that education is an effective way of reducing offensive stereotypes.
