Nowadays, there are various forms of media, such as television, radio, films or the internet. The media play a significant role in our everyday lives, dominating a great deal of our time, which means we are all part of the audience. Throughout the history, there have been many attempts trying to understand the complex relationship between the media and the audience. Media studies explore the images, sounds or texts we receive from the media and the possible effects they might have on the audience, leading to one of their approaches, the audience studies. One of the first attempts to understand the audience resulted in the formation of the ‘media effects’ model, which was later, outshined by improved and more informative theories.
