The first part gives a definition on variance analysis and some basic calculations of variances relating to revenue and cost performances. This part also includes further discussions on those variances basedon the likelihood of causes, relationships and issues that need to be addressed. The second part distinguishes the benefits and limitations of using variance analysis to evaluate business’ and employees’ performances. Finally, possible and relevant recommendations are proposed to overcome the issues raised in the first part.
