Papers:
- Pseudoword Effect: Tests recognition memory through a study phase (see list of items) and
test phase (see old and new items) – basically must determine whether the item is new or old.
Hit Rate: correct ‘old’ responses. False Alarm Rate: incorrect ‘old’ responses. Results show a
typical mirror effect with low and high frequency words. Green (2004) compared words with
non-words and found a Pseudoword effect (both HR and FAR increased for non-words.
- Cog. Training to Improve Gf: Gf is basically ability to reason/solve new problems (tested using
Ravens/BOMAT). WM is basically ability to hold/manipulate info in our mind. (Links between
the 2 have been established). Use n-back task to see whether WM training improves
performance on Ravens/BOMAT.
- SNARC Effect: mental number line is how we associate small numbers with the LEFT and large
numbers with the RIGHT (innate or learned?). Tested 3 different groups from different
countries (who read in different directions) on a digital parity task (odd or even?).
