How do we perceive the environment around us? Gestalt psychologists argue for a simultaneous and instant perception, that objects are perceived in entirety before its individual features? Navon proposed a study to identify global precedence to test how the level of processing affects perception. Navon suggested that we perceive global features, and then progress further toward a more detailed analysis of local features (Navon, 1977). Navon’s experiment aims to test the global precedence in perception by measuring the reaction time of perception of global processing and comparing it with the reaction time of the local processing.
