Social Psychology
Human Behaviour as influenced by others, influence via social surroundings.
Social psychologists study how the beliefs and attitudes people hold can lead them to behave in a certain way in
social situations. Depending upon individual characteristics and societal factors.
Adjustments are always made to behaviour depending on the setting we find ourselves in.
Key Aspects
• It is not just physical presence of another or multiple people but it is also the imagined / implied
presence that is perceived that can influence one's actions.
o E.g. Seeing people on social media, magazines, movies, can all shape our perceptions.

• Studied tsk performance within the presence/absence of another person.
• Children had to wind up fishing wire
• Either on their own or another kid doing the same task

• Results:
o Presence of another person doing the same task increased task performance
• Co-action effect
• 4 decades later, task performance was found to be influenced by mere presence of others
o Audience effect
• Some tasks performance was improved upon with spectators, and others performance was hindered
o Social facilitation (or inhibition)
