These compounds are very useful in organic synthesis. This is because organometallic compounds have the ability to as act as a strong base, nucleophile or reductant. It is an important reagent in the organic synthesis, and is frequently used to transfer lithium atom to substrates in synthetic steps. Furthermore, organometallic reagent is very sensitive to atmosphere and it may cause explosion if interact with atmosphere. The organometallic reagent using for this experiment is n-BuLi. It is used to standardize two different indicators which are Diphenylacetic acid and Salicylaldehyde Phenylhydrazone.
