She become a nun at the age of 15 and was elected the head of a convent soon after. Aged 32, Hildegard began to receive visions and revelations from God and recorded these in her first and most recognisable book Scivias (the one who knows the ways of the Lord). She consequently made an important contribution to the development and expression of Christianity by conveying her visions and her connection with God through her books, music, art and preaching tours. She also spoke out about injustices and as a woman of these times (12th Century) was unexpectedly received favourably and supported by the patriarchal Catholic Church.
