SOR Assessment Task
Over the years society has evolved and gradually become more efficient as the point of view and
perspectives of the society have also changed on various aspects of life. The one thing which remained
constant in life is religion. Throughout history, religion has both enlightened society and individuals with a
faith to believe in but also led to global conflicts due to the individual’s limited perspectives. Religion is a
system of meaning embodied into our lives, it’s a community of faith and a worldview that articulates the
views of a group of likeminded individuals. Society has benefited from religion as it provides ethics and
morals as well as being united with a community who share similar views and beliefs. Individuals
personally benefit from their religion as it provides them with a sense of purpose in their life as well as it
contributes to their identity. In our everyday lives, religion plays an enormous role. The major religions
include Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism which have played a huge role to shape the
minds of individuals and are a part of every society. Religion is characterised by its followers, sacred texts,
ethics and rituals, both individuals and modern society have made a huge contribution towards religion and
vice versa. For thousands of years, it has been used to maintain order and human wellbeing. The continuous
participation in following similar beliefs, or following a religion, has created an influence n society’s ethics,
socio-economic system, and cultural aspects such as art, literature and music which are still seen in modern
society.
