The sign of a healthy organisation is when there are highly engaged employees in the workforce that are enthusiastic and able to contribute to the company’s success (Devi, 2009). Employee engagement must be kept at the forefront of what Human Resource Managers focus on as it is vital to ensure the retainability of talented employees, to maintain sustainable growth and competitive advantage for the organisation. An engaged employee goes beyond their job description by putting discretionary effort into their work (Macey & Schneider, 2008). It is crucial to achieve employee engagement in an organisation by attracting and retaining the best talent for the business. Successful organisations recognise the increasing importance of retaining talented employees to sustain the future of the organisation (Govaerts, Kyndt, Dochy & Baert, 2011).
