The aim of this assessment is to give you an opportunity to further develop your academic writing skills by responding
to the feedback from your first assessment, while exploring topics that are integral to developing your understanding of
the registered nurses’ (RN) role.
Many factors influence the Australian healthcare system and shape the RN role. Factors may be historical, political
and/or socio-cultural. As healthcare professionals within this system, it is important for RNs to be aware of key influences
on the Australian health care system
1. Provide an introduction that clearly contextualises your assignment and identifies the aim.
(Approximately 150 words)
2. Identify and describe two key influences that have shaped healthcare and/or healthcare access in
contemporary Australian society (the two influences must be from 2 different influencing categories, i.e.
not 2 historical issues or 2 cultural issues) (Approximately 200 words each influence) and
3. Discuss how each influence has shaped contemporary healthcare and/or contemporary healthcare
access. (Approximately 200 words each influence)
4. Discuss and reflect on how each influence might impact your role as an RN. You can use the pronoun
“I” in this section i.e. you can write in the “first person” but only in this section of the essay.

5. Write a conclusion that summarises the overall assignment, without introducing any new information
or references. (Approximately 150 words)
