Victorious trauma other wise known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are well known amongst violent crime victims rather than among victims of natural violence. People fear violent crimes more than they do natural disasters even though natural disasters occur more frequently than traumatic experiences. This is because violent crimes reduce victim’s trust in others and reduce their belief that the world is in control (Week 7 lecture Slides). In the book Violent Victimization by Barry Rubuck and Martha P. Thompson, 2001, PTSD symptoms are a primary or direct experience with violence. While primary victims suffer from PTSD, others around them can also suffer the consequences.
