Question 1: What type of homicide is featured in this case?
The homicide featured in this case would fall under domestic homicide but more specifically
an intimate femicide/intimate partner homicide, that being the perpetrator was a male
and the victim a female. The intimate relationship was evident in this case as Miss
Harman and Mr Gittany were engaged and living together at the time of the incident.
Question 2: What are the main characteristics of the offender?
Simon Gittany was 38 years old at the time of the incident and comes from a large family,
being one of six children. His parents had originally emigrated from Lebanon and the
family had moved to Merrylands in Sydney’s west. According to a report by Ms Anna
Robillard, a psychologist who assessed Mr Gittany said he had a stable and caring
upbringing.
