With the advent of the internet and advances in technology, there has been resounding pressure for the reliance on paper, which is regarded as inefficient, cumbersome and expensive, to be removed across multiple industries.3 One of the latest developments in this area has been the adoption of national legislation around conveyancing, with all states and territories now enacting legislation4 establishing an Electronic Lodgement Network5 operated by Property Exchange Australia Limited.6
This paper briefly discusses the aims of the shift from paper based to electronic conveyancing and considers the impact this may have on the operation and core objectives of the Torrens framework.
