Sperm examination is an important tool in estimating the fertility potential of male, the causes of infertility and of seminal material quality. However, the actual ability of the spermatozoa in fertilization process is difficult to assess. Because the quality of sperm can be modified by exogenous factors (diet, sexual life, the condition of life etc.) or endogenous factors (genetic, neuroendocrine etc.) which influence on spermatogenesis activity of testicles, or even due to prostatic diseases. Until now, the most common way to sperm evaluation is use of combined tests including the measurement the volume of ejaculate, the sperm cell concentration, the total number of sperm in the ejaculate, the progressive motility, the percentage of viable cells, and the morphology (Woelders H 1991, Waberski D 1999). The report describes actual knowledge on several sperm examination techniques on boar or male pig and their relative value for prediction of the fertilizing capacity of a given ejaculate.
