5 Pages Essays / Projects Year Uploaded: 2022

This was an essay for "The Poem" module on Stevie Smith's poem "Not Waving but Drowning." Mark received: 74. Feedback: This was an excellent essay, exploring Stevie Smith’s ‘Not Waving But Drowning’. The writing was very good, and included some subtle observations, including interesting thoughts about the veiled ballad form. It was nice to refer to the image that accompanied the poem, but perhaps a shame to mediate your reading of this aspect via secondary critics (especially in a close-reading assignment like this). Good link to epic hexameter, and to shifting pulse, and some persuasive points regarding Smith’s voice and use of punctuation. On the whole, a wonderful response to the module. Well done.
