This was an essay for the "Approaches to Criticism" module which looks at Marxism in relation to the vampire. Mark received: 71. Feedback: This is great work! You provide a precise explication of profit and how it is dependent on wage labor, and I particularly like how you variously work through the gothic imagery which attaches itself to the insatiable appetite of capitalist accumulation, and in equal measure the economic science behind this accumulation. Your discussion of how labour is commodified is spot on (likewise the working day), and I really liked your analysis of Dracular in relation to this. You also make very deft use of secondary criticism, particularly Morisette—just be sure when you are block quoting from critics that you patiently unpack the point they are making. The same goes for the critical theory you variously refer to and quote; it is great that you are systematically working through Marx’s critique of capital, but you want to avoid too many block quotes (be selective with exact phrases and points you are drawing from and integrate it more thoroughly into your own words and critical voice). Overall your writing is admirably clear, which is terrific!
