In “The Tyger”, Wiliam Blake presents the concept of divine power through his observation of the Tyger as a creature of the sublime, as he ponders the moral implications of God as one with such creative power. Shelley’s “Ode to the West Wind” is distinctly different in it’s approach as Shelley opts for a more paganistic exploration of the power of nature, one that is free of references to God. In this poem, he acknowledges the Wind’s power to invoke change, beseeching it to evangelise his beliefs and work to the world. Both poems, however, are unified in their recognitions of the power of higher beings, and consequently, the fallibility and shortcomings of mankind.
