POTENTIAL QUESTIONS FOR DICTATORS & IMPERIALISTS UNIT 1: RUSSIA 1917-1991 THE FORMAT OF THE EXAM PAPER SECTION A (20 MARKS) Choice of TWO essay questions Each question will be concerned with two of the four themes. Section A questions focus on causation & consequence ONLY. Section A questions focus on narrower time span (min 10 years, max 25 years). SECTION B (20 MARKS) Choice of TWO essay questions. Each question will be concerned with the other two of the four themes (not covered in Section A). Section B questions can test any of the key concepts (i.e. causation & consequence, similarity & difference, continuity & change, significance). Section B questions can cover a much wider time span (e.g. 1917-85). SECTION C (20 MARKS) ONE question based on the fall of the Soviet Union (1985-91). You will be given TWO different extracts from the works of historians offering interpretations of why the USSR collapsed. You will answer an essay question in which you will be expected to analyse and evaluate the interpretations in the 2 extracts:
