“The Marshall plan marked the start of the Cold war”

The Marshall plan created by George Marshall helped the economic states of countries in Europe after the second world war. The plan was unveiled on the 5th of June 1947 and is officially known as the European Recovery program. After William L. Clayton returned from Western Europe in May 1947 he concluded that if the USA does not revive the economy of European states it would be damaging to the USA economically. All though the USA argued the plan was to benefit the state of Europe economically the USSR saw the plan as a threat and a way to divide East and West further due to their contrasting ideologies. Some argue this divide created and the tension built was what marked the start of the Cold war. However, others argue that other events marked the beginning of the cold war such as the events of Potsdam and Yalta including the events in response to these agreements, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the USA and the Berlin Blockade.
