Lab report

The aim of the present study was to demonstrate how well children and adults can use body maps to show where touch occurred on another person. It was hypothesised that adults would report more correct touches than children, and would also have higher accuracy scores than children. Participants included 17 adults and 14 children who were shown a video of an adult male dressing a young girl as a pirate, whilst touching the girl in five different places. Immediately after the video, participants were instructed to report the locations of the five touches. The measured variables were the number of correctly reported touches and accuracy score. On average adults reported a higher number of correctly reported touches and had a higher accuracy score than children. The results supported the hypothesis that adults would report more correct touches than children and would also have higher accuracy scores than children. It was concluded that there were age related differences in performance when using body maps to report touches that occurred on another person.
