Wellington International Airport is the capital city of New Zealand's main airport and the second largest airport in New Zealand. It receives around 3.5 million passengers per year passing through it. It is one of the main New zealand hubs for trans tasman flight and creates large amounts of domestic flights per year. It is located within the eastern suburbs of Seatoun and Miramar and its runway spans for around 2 km it is connected to Wellington Central Business District through State Highway 1 which runs horizontal to it which is the main access way to this airport. Alternatively there is also the Lyall bay moa point tunnel that runs south of the airport at the end of the runway. It is adjacent to 2 separate bodies of water, south is the Cook Strait direction and north is the Wellington Harbour. Currently it can easily be accessed by bus through the express bus routes that are used especially for express to Airport. Wellington Airport has a massive history to it dating back to when it first opened in 1935 being originally known as Rongotai Airport. In 1956 a proposal was made to relocate the airport terminal from the east side of the airport to where it currently stands in the west side where the miramar golf course sits. During this Change 1958 constructions began and many houses were moved and hills were bulldozed to make flat land that would later become the airport design and Location we see today this construction cost a massive 5 million euros. The airport then reopened in October of 1959 where it hasn't received any major projects on it since. The airport lies on a 110 hectare piece of land with the runway spanning exactly 2,081 metre and 6,827 Feet. The priority details of this proposed issue is an expected 355m extension towards the cook strait of Lyall bay with a cost evaluation of $300 Million dollars expecting around 1 million per metre made. This extension will allow for increased flight frequency and long haul flights.
