Introgression
In the research article entitled “Introgression of blast resistance genes into the elite rice variety MR263 through marker-assisted backcrossing,” Hasan et al. (2015) aimed to produce MR263 that is resistant to blast disease. Through the use of marker-assisted backcrossing, the blast resistance genes were introduced into the recurrent parent MR263. Pongsu Seribu 1 variety was utilized as the donor of the blast resistance genes Pi-7(t), Pi-d(t)1, Pir2-3(t), and qLN2 quantitative trait locus (QTL). MR263-BR-3, MR263-BR-4, MR263-BR-13, and MR263-BR-26 are the blast-resistant lines that were developed. These lines were exposed to further backcrossing and selfing generations while using marker-assisted selection to locate and keep the genes of interest.
