Background: There are many factors that can have an effect on heart rate. It can depend on the individual, body size, age, emotions, air temperature, heart conditions, medications or whether the person is sitting or standing. As the necessity for oxygen alters in countless situations, such as sleep and exercise, the heart rate varies accordingly. This assessment provides you with the opportunity to formulate a hypothesis, design and conduct an investigation, and manipulate apparatus to obtain, represent, analyse and interpret data. The assessment also provides the opportunity to work as a part of a team to make safe and ethical decisions about how you will conduct the investigation, and to communicate your knowledge and understanding of biological concepts in the appropriate format of a scientific report. Task: In this activity you are going to investigate the big question “What factors affect heart rate”. In this activity, you will need to collaborate with 2-3 members of your team to decide on a factor that you think will cause a measurable change in the way that the body functions.
