The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was officially established in the year of 1967, along with the participation of the ten Member States including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, some neighbouring states had also involved themselves in ASEAN by becoming the dialogue partners over these years. Among the neighbouring states, Australia can be considered as one of the most crucial state that has dialogued and cooperated with ASEAN for a period of more than forty years and it is still counting. Early in 1974 where Australia became the very first dialogue partner to ASEAN, this ASEAN-Australia partnership had grown and brought a variety types of development in the aspects of security, economic and cultural community for both regions, which it could not be denied that this dialogue partnership had come to a winwin situation. However, challenges could still be observed over this few years within the dialogue relations between the two parties.
