Soda ash, or sodium carbonate, is a chemical refined from the mineral trona or sodium-carbonate-bearing brines. Soda ash from these sources is referred to as “natural soda ash”. Soda ash can also be manufactured from several chemical processes and the product is referred to as “synthetic soda ash”. Soda ash is impure Na2CO3 that has an important commercial use. Soda ash is used as a raw material in glass, chemicals, detergents, and other industrial products. Soda ash has impurities, but these impurities can be titrated with a strong acid since the impurities are inert to acid.
