Colorism is prejudice against people based on their skin colour or physical characteristics such as hair texture and eye colour. Some people could also be a hate of their own skin tone and characteristics. Even though there are two people may be the same race and they still be treated differently due to their colour of their skin. (Webb, 2019) Colorism puts dark-skinned people at a disadvantage while light-skinned people are always favored. Colorism has existed in and outside of Black America for ages. It's a frequent type of prejudice that has to be combated with the same intensity as racism. (The Origins of Colorism and How This Bias Persists in America, 2021)
