Ethics Assignment
In this vignette, Psychologist Dr. Smith provides therapy to Sophie, a client who
displayed symptoms of anxiety following her rough past. Prior to accepting a job offer,
Sophie discussed her anxiousness with Dr. smith, who helped her prepare for the challenges
she was to face. Furthermore, her soon to be manager Mr. Biggy was personally known to Dr.
Smith and Sophie was reassured he was a “really good guy”, making her less
anxious. Nonetheless, weeks later, Sophie began to feel uncomfortable as a result of Mr.
Biggy’s inappropriate remarks and sought advice from Dr. Smith. Similarly, Mr. Biggy
disclosed to Dr. Smith his intentions of having an affair with a sales representative, leaving Dr.
Smith in an uncomfortable position. Thus, with the assistance of the Australian Psychological
Society (APS) Code of Ethics (CoE) (2007), the following report will help identify and analyze
the ethical principles and codes breached by Dr. Smith and the probable ethical dilemma and
traps he may have faced. Furthermore, alongside justifying Dr. Smith’s motives, with the
assistance of the decision-making model, ethical recommendations for Psychologists facing
similar situations are derived
