Cardiovascular System & Pharmacotherapy Case Study Preparation

Cardiovascular System & Pharmacotherapy CASE STUDY PRESENTATION. Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition where the heart cannot effectively circulate blood, leading to various health issues. CHF prevalence is increasing globally due to factors like an aging population and the rise of conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. CHF has significant financial costs, including expenses related to hospitalizations, medications, outpatient visits, and long-term care. CHF can result in lower productivity, increased disability, and higher healthcare utilization, putting a strain on medical resources and exacerbating the economic burden. A 53-year-old woman with CHF, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and osteopenia experiences persistent symptoms despite taking medications. The patient's symptoms include shortness of breath and fatigue, especially after exercise, leading to poor recovery and recent hospitalization for worsening heart failure. The patient is currently taking Aspirin, Calcium citrate, Simvastatin, Lisinopril, Metoprolol XL, and Furosemide. Medical records indicate the patient's weight, height, body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) level, serum creatinine, and serum potassium. Echocardiogram results show systolic dysfunction with an ejection fraction of 25-30%.
