4 Pages Essays / Projects Year Uploaded: 2024

In most Western Liberal democracies, colonisation is described merely as the process of taking over a foreign territory to cultivate its lands and “civilise,” its people. The desire to plunder and loot these countries overtook any sense of humanity and resulted in some of the worst atrocities in modern history. However, the discussions that have been had surrounding colonialism up until the late 20th century failed to recognise that colonialism could not have flourished without systemic eradication of native people’s cultures, identities and history. To this end, my essay will argue that it is instrumental that decolonisation be about more than the return of the land. This argument will be based on 4 main topics; the restoration of culture, self-determination, economic freedom and reconciliation.
