Recently a group of homeless people who set up camp in the City square have refused generous help from the city council and welfare agencies. Despite being offered up to three months' housing and health services from Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, their hypocritical rejection of the offer has garnered varied responses. In light of this situation, an editorial ironically titled "Homeless say no to a home" (17/05/16) was published on the Herald Sun; targeted at Victoria Police, Melbourne City Council and welfare organisations, admonishing them to make further action to provide shelter. In an informative tone, the editorial opens addressing the hypocritical nature of the homeless Melbournians who have rejected what they need most – accommodation and health. There was a higher number of homeless people in males (56%), however females who were homeless reported a higher number of domestic or family violence.
