SCWK90057 - Working with Groups and Communities
1 Found helpful • 13 Pages • Essays / Projects • Year: Pre-2021
The immigration and respective population in countries like United States, where a general perception of opportunities is present, always grow rapidly. When social work is considered, effective services to these populations and immigrants must begin with the understanding of their respective categories based on number of factors, the causes of migration, demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, the process of migration, and service utilization pattern of immigrants (Tripodi, 2002). This essay presents a review of the case study article by Lopez (1991), in which he illustrated the group work as the protective factor in immigrant youth. The case study article presents this protective factor as an aspect of capability and mastery to immigrants with their new environment. This case study is particular to immigrant youth to United States of America and specifically Hispanic immigrant youth.
