Parabolals Investigation
investigating 2021 deck arch bridge
Throughout the investigation, many different characteristics of the bridge were explored such as The
quadratic ?? = − 1
100 ( ?? − 135 )2 + 182.25 was found to be the model of the arch for the bridge,
which was determined using the vertex form. The equation was used to determine the position and
the height of each of the steel cables on the bridge. The total length of steel that is required to
construct the vertical supports was 737.1m.The aim of this investigation was to find the length that is
required to construct the vertical supports using steel cables. During the course of the investigation,
different formulas were used in order to find the length of the steel required to construct the steel
cables. Limitations in this investigation including, that the numbers have been rounded, the
calculations were made for a 2D bridge and the steel that would be needed to build the arch was not
calculated. This investigation could have extended if real life dimensions were used. It could also have
been extended by finding the cost of steel that would be required to build the vertical supports and
the cost of building the whole bridge.
