After acquiring sufficient knowledge in the area of quadratic equations and parabolas; I will attempt to determine the equation of particular parabolas which occur in real life situations. In this task, I am to identify parabolas of a brilliant piece of engineering and determine its equations. In this section of the task, I was provided with a side-on image of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (figure a.1); it showed few of the approximate dimensions, and from that, I was to find the equation of the upper arc and the lower arc. I had the freedom to choose where to place the X and the Y axis to suit the questions.
