The aim for this investigation was to use differential calculus techniques to produce a maximised volume for a cake tin, this was to be done by a combination of calculus and algebra. The data to be recorded in a coherent tables and graphs to fully illustrate any relationships and trends with the length of the cut and the volume of the tin – to produce and prove a valid conjecture.

As this is a differential calculus investigation, where methods of calculus, algebra and arithmetic is used to work out a cut of length which allows a cake tin manufacturer to produce square and rectangular based tins with the largest possible volumes.
