Germination is the beginning of seed development. Successful germination is dependent on oxygen, water availability and temperature (The Spruce, 2018). Wheat germination occurs when there is sufficient water, a temperature range between 12 to 25°C and the presence of macronutrients (Springer Nature, 2018). Macronutrients are essential nutrients required by seeds for germination and plant establishment. Potassium sulphate(K2SO4) is a macronutrient that plays many regulatory roles in wheat (NIOSH, 2018). Suitable levels of potassium in the soil are crucial to the growth of wheat as it controls stomatal activity, enzyme activation and sugar and starch production (IPNI, 1988). The sulphate allows the potassium to be soluble in water, therefore allowing the seeds to absorb the compound as fertilizers (Impact fertilisers, 2018). By treating wheat seeds with different concentrations of potassium sulphate (0%, 0.5% 1% and 1.5%), the germination of the seeds will be measured.
