The medium through which various nutrients, oxygen and wastes are passed is called the blood, it contains many dissolved substances both useful and waste around the body to the relevant organs to be used, filtered or disposed of. The heart pumps and supplies the blood around the body, in order to keep a constant supply of oxygen to muscles and organs, and to remove waste products. When we exercise, energy is required by our muscles in order to function. Energy is produced from the oxidation of glucose, completely breaking down to produce the energy, carbon dioxide and water.
