What is Hajj? • The fifth pillar of Islam is the pilgrimage or "hajj" .The five pillars are central religious duties of Islam. They provide a guide for Muslim’s as to how practice their faith and submit to the will of Allah. • The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a highly significant practice within the tradition of Islam. • One fifth of humankind shares a single aspiration: to complete, at least once in a lifetime, the spiritual journey called the Hajj • The Hajj to Mecca is an once-in-a-lifetime obligation upon male and female adults whose health and means permit it (physically and economically), or, in the words of the Qur'an, upon “those who can make their way there.” • The word "hajj" means to embark on a journey with a purpose. • Every devout Muslim seeks to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime. • The purpose is to visit the Ka’ba in Makkah and worship on Mount Arafat. • The pilgrimage takes place during the twelfth month of the Muslim calendar "Dhul-Hijjah" (the Month of Hajj). The actual pilgrimage rites take place on the 8th to 12th days of the month.
