The Earth has a gravitational field that exerts force on objects both on it and around it Define weight as the force on an object due to a gravitational field Weight – Weight is the force that acts on a mass within a gravitational field. Unlike mass, weight changes depending on the strength of the gravitational field. SI unit is Newtons (N). Therefore – F=mg Where: - F = weight or weight force (N) - m = mass of the object (kg) - g = gravitational acceleration of an object due to the presence of the gravitational field (ms-2). On earth, g can be taken as 9.8 ms-2. Variations in this may occur. Explain that a change in gravitational potential energy
